This is the first time I have tried Shou Sugi Ban on a broomstick, and I am quite happy I did! I started with a dead, standing lodepole pine sapling, which I peeled using a traditional shave horse and draw knife. I then used flame to char the surface of the broomstick, brushed and rubbed the surface and sealed it with natural walnut oil and carnauba wax.
The overall length of this broom is 58". The sweep is 9" wide, and the handle is approximately 1" in diameter. Wood is sealed with food grade wood wax. Complete with a nice handmade marline hemp hang loop. Light in weight, yet sturdy. The broom has a long, slender feel to it -- just the right size for sweeping in the kitchen or around the house. Sweeps nicely left or right. I know someone will be delighted with this broom, and enjoy it for years to come.
