Pioneer Fireplace Hearth Broom - Branch Handle Besom - Flat Sewn Hand Broom

This old-fashioned fireplace besom is built on a delightful hardwood branch. Charming yet sturdy, this broom will last for many years as a fireplace companion.

The broom is made from 100% North American broom corn -- woven tightly, never to loosen or unravel. It is to our delight to find a beautiful branch in nature, and bring to life functional art. Made from the highest quality materials and handcrafted by us in U.S.A. The overall length of this broom is approximately 28". The width of the sweep is 8". Thickness of sweep at the end of the bristles is 1 1/2". Handle diameter is approximately 1".

We collect the handles by thinning saplings in a hardwood lot. We cure the handles at our shop for one year. The The knots have been sanded to reveal the sapwood, and natural beeswax finish is applied to seal the wood. A leather loop make the broom easy to hang by the fireplace or wood stove. Two rows of natural linen stitching, and extra long bristles.

We have a strong passion for brooms - creating them, learning about them, and using them. Each broom we offer is built by hand using 1800's methods borrowed from the Shakers. In our small workshop in the Pacific Northwest, we weave them one at a time. Every broom is unique, and designed to last for many years.
